The 1997 Model National Energy Code of Canada for Houses (MNECH) provides technical requirements for the construction of energy-efficient houses. It applies to single-family houses of three storeys or less and to additions of more than 10 m2.
It is available for purchase through NRC's Virtual Store (printed format and on-line subscription to Historical Editions of the National Construction Codes).
A new edition of the MNECH will not be published. Provisions dealing with energy efficiency for housing will be incorporated into a separate section of Part 9 of the 2010 National Building Code and will be published in fall 2012.
